LET’S MAKE GOOD FUTUREs together.
Good Together is a studio for imagining better futures and bringing them to life. In the face of crises all around us, we bring people together to figure out what just, sustainable, and joyful lives might look like for us and for future generations, and to start building them right where we are.
“A technology revolution, an ecological crisis, and our shared and growing urge to live in a more just world create radical openings” in the world today, Hilary Cottam tells us. “Each of these connected and deep currents has profoundly altered the pattern of what is possible, sometimes causing impacts which are wretched and difficult, but simultaneously offering immense promise of what could be.”
We acknowledge that our team work on the lands of the Whadjuk people of the Nyoongar nation. We acknowledge their elders who have cared for this Country throughout time, and who know more about resistance and adaptation in the face of crisis than we ever will.
If we want to transform the systems that aren’t working for us rather than tinkering at the edges, we need different ways of thinking about how we do change work. Good Together draws on exciting ideas and people from unlikely backgrounds to unpack real world challenges. Our work spans design, imagination, futures, arts, politics, economics, and more, sharing insights and inspiration to help you to be more ambitious in your work to create good futures.
IDEAS
Building better futures can be a lonely business. Our events bring together the dreamers and troublemakers who are trying to open up more just, sustainable, and joyful possibilities for everybody. We try to do things a bit differently, giving people a taste of the futures we might want through the way we gather now. We’ve done a good job if we’ve introduced you to a provocative new idea, a helpful new tool, and an intriguing new co-conspirator friend.
EVENTS
It’s one thing to imagine how the world could be different; it’s another thing to see it coming to life in front of you. Good Together amplifies and joins up the great work already happening, and initiates new projects as demonstrations of the kinds of systems we need right now, giving form to radical ideas so you can touch and feel them - as well as critique them, and help us to make them even better.
PROJECTS
I’m Matt Berry, a designer and organiser from Boorloo Perth. My work is about helping us make the transformations we need towards safe, just, and joyful futures, and Good Together is a platform for that work. I’ve worked on social and environmental change across non-profit, start-up, consulting, and advocacy spaces, backed up by studies in design, climate and environment, communications, politics and philosophy (just don’t ask about the student debt). Good Together is where I can put what I’ve learnt to work in support of collaboration for good.
Hey!
I'm Joni Sercombe, a social designer living on Whadjuk Nyoongar country (Perth, Western Australia). I’m interested the work of exploring and embodying new Australian dream/s for the good life. My work has spanned a range of Government and non-profit organisations both in Western Australia and overseas, with a focus on growing resilient mechanisms for human flourishing and co-designing place-based responses to respond to complex social challenges. I've also worked in social enterprise and have had a longstanding involvement with the grassroots Town Team movement through the Vic Park Collective. I'm an avid consumer of speculative fiction, a maker, and a gardener, and I was for a brief time a cricket farmer. Good Together is my contribution to focusing more wholly on futures which recognise our shared humanity, our interconnectedness with nature, and our responsibilities to future generations.
HI!
I'm Hélène Tholoniat, a social impact consultant based in Boorloo (Perth, WA). After living on many lands, including France, England, and Aotearoa, I chose Whadjuk Noongar Boodja to build a life with my West Australian husband. Always guided by a passion for equity and justice, I’ve had a varied career, including working in social enterprise in Aotearoa, as a social worker in England, and now as a social innovation consultant in Boorloo. These roles have given me the opportunity to work at different 'system levels', from working with families on the frontline to partnering for systemic change with government agencies and not-for-profits. I joined Good Together to help connect the dots of change in WA, and to contribute, through the power of collective thinking and gathering, to greater systems change!
